Fattoria Il Lago is a Tuscan winery and olive oil producing country estate, situated just outside of Florence near the small town of Dicomano. The estate belonged to the noble Florentine family of Bartolini-Vivai-Salimbeni hundreds of year ago, then in 1962 the farm was purchased by the Spagnoli family who began the slow process of restoring many dilapidated buildings and overhauling the vineyards and replanting the Sangiovese grape vines.

Viticulture Fattoria Il Lago

Grapes are harvested by hand from the denominated "Frusina" area, with an average vine age of 20 years, on rich clay soils at 350 metres above sea level with excellent water retention, yielding around 60 quintals (6000 kg) per hectare.

Winemaking

The maceration process takes place in stainless steel vats and is periodically punched down so as to obtain a higher quality of colour and aroma extraction. During this period of around 20 days the wine ends its alcoholic fermentation at a temperature of 28°.

Tasting Note

Red ruby colour with shades of purple and a bright intensity. Intense red and black fruits on the palate followed by a bouquet of scented violets. Dry, warm and soft with bracing acidity and well suited tannin supported by excellent structure and balance despite the young liveliness of fruit.
