Orin Swift Cellars was founded by winemaker Dave Phinney in 1998 when he was only 24 years old. Dave has a long history of winemaking at premium wineries in Napa Valley including Robert Mondavi Winery and Whitehall Lane. He paid tribute to his parents with the name of this winery; Orin is his father’s middle name and Swift is his mother’s maiden name.
The most widely planted white wine grape in California, Chardonnay is expressed in many different styles due to the state’s varied regions. Microclimates and unique soil types allow us to source Chardonnay that tell us about place, helping us achieve our goals of showing what California has to offer. Before everything is blended, each lot expresses where it comes from – some are acid-forward and mineral-focused, while others are robust, ripe and fruit-forward. But through blending trials we’re able to bring them together and form a piece of liquid art. Vintage after vintage we source fruit from vineyards across the state of California featuring vineyards located in the Russian River Valley, Atlas Peak and Santa Maria Valley – Mannequin is our manifestation of California Chardonnay.
Tasting Note
The 2022 Mannequin pours a luminous gold core with flecks of emerald, which appear stunning in the glass. Aromatic notes of yellow peach, crème fraiche and graham cracker emanate without much coaxing. On the palate, bright hints of white peach, bosc pear, caramel apple, candied walnut and lemon pith envelop and coat effortlessly. A round finish and supple mouthfeel give way to a touch of toffee at close..
